Blue note is the name I wished for this first instrumental album. It is the fruit of several years of work in the audiovisual broadcasting (montage of documentaries including one which won a price at the Pezenas international festival of the art crafts), and of creation of songs as well. Here the blue note doesn't symbolize the typical diminished fifth note of the Blues. This blue note has to be imagined as a drop of water whirling in a vast solar system, where the life should be sheltered. A wide oasis of landscapes, colours and living beings. It's by studying the work of Debussy, Orchestration of the Moussorgsky masterpiece "Tableaux d'une exposition", that I decided to present, in my way and in my own musical style, this album such as a picture gallery full of animated life scenes. I thus gave up the grammatical and cinematographic writing to let free course entirely to my musical imagination in order to tell, - thanks to various sonorities which are similar for me to a musical alphabet - , my impressions, my feelings, a particular description of my perception of the world : a voyage on the Earth. To my two most beautiful blue notes : To my two children.

Music, unlike the images, calls the imagination as well as literature. And when I am asked to explain my way of perceiving it, my answer is: "to understand music, It's like diving into a novel. It's an invitation to travel. It's like looking at a film through our thoughts". Indeed for me, the primordial work of the composer is to describe a story, a feeling, to create an atmosphere, a clue in order to bring the listener into his universe, into his creation, far beyond a simple choice of chords or instruments. Then, the listener must imagine the work with his own sensitivity, his own interpretation in order to live it fully. So that there is a fusion between the imagination of the listener and that of the composer. So that they become complementary to one another. This is the aim. I thus will try to give you some tracks concerning the titles of this album. It will be then with you to take them into account or not, when listening to it. My work of conception is finished and yours is starting. This journey now belongs to you. I wish you a very good listening and a very beautiful moment among us in the world.

1) Travel in blue
First play of the album. Imagine that you can fly, following an albatross in mid-air, free like the wind. You fly over the ocean and the whales, over the mountains and the plains. You discover the Earth, its wonderful colors and sonorities, far away from the sky. So, spread the wings of your imagination and let go. The music will be your guide.

2) A green world  - Guests : P. Guers  (bass) / J-L Montalbano(guitar)
Instrumental of the song En vert et contre tout, and in the continuity of  Travel in blue, this piece is a dialogue between a guitar and singing whales, where it's sometimes nearly impossible to distinguish between them, so much their songs are similar. They become the echo of a common distress. Anthem for the nature, for its richness and its beauty. A solo bass denounces how much the havoc of the nature and the pollution will plague our future generations.

3) Some words -  Guest : P. Venture (keyboard)
Some words. Some words which we would like to forget or catch up with. Some words which could have changed the world, or a life. Some words that we can still hear, fault of  having never been said. Perhaps even one word would have been enough : Love.

4) Fil harmonique (Harmonic thread) - Selected to present the Lumiville Salon  in 2003
This work for piano solo is built like a ribbon in gymnastics, whirling according to its emotions and its imagination. This colored piece of piano was selected in 2003 in order to illustrate a document presenting the work of a group of lighting designers from the Rhone-Alpes French area during the exhibition "Lumiville". Then it will accompany a song of my future album : Filles de blues.

5) Road 66 - GuestsJ-L Montalbano (guitar) / A.Amadei  (harp)
This instrumental of the song, A tombereau ouvert dans ta buick, is the reflection of a dream which I have for years: riding the famous Road 66 on a Harley. My dream has not come true yet, but I have done this song with a Buick instead of a Harley … The harmonica imitates the sound of the engine and the movement of the air. A humming story and an impressing work by the the harp player.

6) Boston time - Guest : P. Guers (bass)
It's by composing one of the songs of my next album, Filles of blues, that I had fun to write a musical conversation between four pianos and one bass. This piece sounds very much like "Saloon atmosphere" when closing time puts an end to the imagination of spirits overheated by the alcohol vapors.

7) Free like a kite  - Guest : C. Achard  (guitar)
By composing, Huit bras pour un cerf-volant, I was wishing to support the action of the parents of handicapped children and of handicapped adults so that no more difference exists neither in the visual, nor in the educational structures. In order that mentalities move on and science goes on. In order that these children may have the same chances and the same rights as the others. For this piece my wish was to let the guitarist free in his musical flight, just linked by a symbolic thread : the string of his guitar, musical symbol of a kite flying. Playing with the wind, free, light, in a spirit of serenity, open to the world. For some of these children, living is a long suffering road and for their parents as well. So in the act of flying, there is a part of dream, a part of magic and the hope of another life. So let's go to join this small kite to discover its world, a dreaming world.

8) No difference  - Selected to present a documentary A mots couverts - Guest : J-L Montalbano (guitar)
This instrumental of the song "Rio, Bas les masques" was selected by Jean-Pierre Rosseuw, producer in the SAN center of broadcasting productions, in order to illustrate an entitled documentary "A mots couverts" about horse riding as a therapy for handicapped people. First, the piece was composed with percussions symbolizing the repression and the people. In the context of this documentary these percussions progressed differently and underlined the fragility of these people and their joy of living as well. The projection of the film was for me a very moving moment. It made me discover that the works of a composer and a producer which are very different at the beginning, can meet at last around a very beautiful document.

9) Lure of the rush hour
It's a small short film. First, various instruments play quietly, then the rush hour involves them in a kind of stress. The traffic density increases. They fall into a panic. Musical collision. Drums are in disorder. Then each one takes the road again, a bashed bumper for the one, a punctured tyre for the other one. Advertisement for the road safety ? Not at all, it was just a lure at the peak hour, just a way to prove that musical instruments can play the comedy !

10) Crossing a main street - Guest : J-C Ferraro (guitar)
A piece of exemplification. The guitar describes the high skyscrapers by progressing from bass to treble as looking up to see them. The noise of the pneumatic drill. The song of the birds in the park reminds us of the nature in spite of so much armoured concrete in our cities. Armoured like the siren warning us of a bomb scare or of a pollution alarm. The melodious arpeggio contrasts with the hardness of  these sounds. Aren't our cities all that at the same time ?

11) Blue note
In tribute to the Earth, to its creation. From the sunrise to the river and the wind, the harp involves us in an atmosphere of peace and serenity.

12) Stop war
For me no war can be right. The reality of massacres is intolerable to me.

13) The scars of wintertime  - Guests : A. Messier (harp) / P.Cudny (guitar) Death like war always prowls to set us apart of our beloved ones and make scars which never heal.

14) Social slalom slap bass
Would the recent social events and the reforms in progress prepar us for a "social slalom" ?

15) Lucy
The story of a young lady who fights to get her place in the society. A story which could be ordinary but Lucy, she is not.

16) Jigastic
Impossible to end of this album without a feast. I thus invite you around a great fire to share a drink for the friendship, and I have thought that a little jig in the Celtic manner would enable us to forget separation. And as the song says, I hope that's only a goodbye and a continuation may be will come.
